General Scholarship Information

Texas Tech University distributes over $20 million in scholarship money annually and awards scholarships on the basis of academic achievement and/or financial need. Financial need is rarely the primary factor considered, but it is often used to make a decision among equally qualified finalists. Many scholarships have additional qualifications.

FRESHMAN PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

By applying for admission, you have already applied for freshmen Texas Tech University Presidential Scholarships. No additional application is required. More information about Texas Tech University Presidential Scholarships can be found here.

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are offered to community college transfer students based on community college academic and leadership achievements. More information about transfer scholarships can be found here. http://www.scholarships.ttu.edu/InstitutionalScholarship.aspx.

INSTITUTIONAL COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

Institutional competitive scholarships are scholarships awarded by Texas Tech University colleges, academic departments, and the financial aid department. Students compete for a limited number of scholarships. The application for institutional competitive scholarships can be found here. http://www.scholarships.ttu.edu/Howtoapply.aspx

SCHOLARSHIPS TO QUALIFY FOR NON-RESIDENT FEE WAIVERS

A non-resident student may be eligible to pay in-state tuition rates if he or she receives an institutional competitive scholarship, transfer scholarship, or Freshman Presidential Scholarship award or awards totaling at least $1,000 for the academic year and/or summer for which the student is enrolled. A scholarship is considered “competitive” if an official Texas Tech University scholarship committee awards the scholarship and the recipient competes against other students, including Texas residents, in order to be selected for the award.

PRIVATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Private scholarships – or Third Party Scholarships - are scholarships that are not controlled or awarded by the university, but by the donors themselves. The money is awarded by third party donors and then sent to Texas Tech to be disbursed. More information on how to apply for these scholarships can be found here. http://www.scholarships.ttu.edu/SearchScholar.aspx
